Ashlyn has always been shy, becoming even more shut away after her sisters death. She can be naïve when it comes to social interactions and the "real" world, preferring to spend most of her time amongst nature which is where she feels most at home. Even though she tries to avoid others she will be kind to anyone who talks to her, even being nice to bullies as a child. The only one who has been able to frustrate her enough to get angry was her twin sister, since her death she has tried to avoid any emotional outbursts. To avoid other people she often tries to sneak about unseen and has developed a skill for stealth.

Ashlyn is the youngest child of Meggan and Brian Braddock, while they were away she and her siblings were babysat by their fathers twin sister Betsy. When Riley was old enough she took over and the siblings would have fun spending time amongst nature and practising their powers.

Ashlyn and her identical twin sister shared the same abilities, however Shaelyn had a more spiteful personality which would often clash with her sisters more innocent outlook.

One night while their parents were away, 10 year old Shaelyn was belittling her sisters ability to effectively use her elemental powers. Once everyone was asleep Ashlyn started practising her powers to prove her sister wrong, however Shaelyn woke up to see what she was doing and once again started to belittle her efforts. In a sudden fit of frustration and anger Ashlyn hit her sister with an energy blast, knocking her unconscious, while simultaneously setting the room ablaze. Devastated to see what she'd done she ran out into the hall, screaming for Riley who then came running upstairs to see what was going on. Seeing the fire and the faint outline of Shaelyn amongst the ever-growing flames, Riley told Ashlyn to use her powers to put out the flames. Ashlyn was terrified as she witnessed what she'd done and couldn't do anything to stop the fire. Hearing sirens in the distance Ashlyn was taken to safety by Riley. Dirty and coughing from the smoke the fire department refused to let them return to the building and all they could do was watch and wait as they tried to put out the fire. 

Shaelyn died that night and grief soon took over the family, driving Meggan and Brian's decision to move their family to America, leaving behind the memory of Shaelyn in England. Ashlyn never revealed how the fire started in fear of her family hating her and blaming her for killing her sister.

Despite their move Ashlyn couldn't forget Shaelyn, she was still a part of her after all. She was numb for a year after the accident, but on the anniversary of Shaelyn's death she started hearing her voice and seeing her everywhere. She tried talking to her mother about it, but she just shrugged it off. Her father overheard them and told Ashlyn that in the past her mother had been known to communicate with the dead. She asked if that meant she could see Shaelyn, but he simply said that the pain would be too much for her if that ever happened, which is why she would rather forget she existed than to be reminded of her every day. 

Ashlyn grew up fearing her elemental powers, knowing how her emotions could affect their power and how a sudden shift in her temper meant that sometimes she'd have no control over her actions. She chose to focus on her ice powers, hoping that would make her numb to any powerful emotions that could trigger an outburst like the one on that fateful night. She stays away from other people, knowing only her family would be able to protect themselves from her if she ever got out of control again. Most people stay away from her anyway when they see her guarded by Riley in her wolf form. She now prefers to use her empathetic powers to become one with nature, trying to understand how things work so as to avoid it's dangerous side.

Fire; Ever since her sister died, Ashlyn has been terrified of fire. She's never used her elemental powers to create fire since that night and she doubts she ever will.

Her Abilities; Both her elemental powers and her superhuman strength has caused problems for her in the past. She refuses to use either, hoping that will prevent her from hurting anyone else.

Rejection; Her fear of being rejected by her family and blamed for Shaelyn's death have caused her to keep the truth about the fire from them.
