Oliver has a very dynamic personality, he's outgoing and adapts to any situation he comes across with ease. His passion and intensity make him strong and he pushes away any weakness he finds within himself. As he was born into a wealthy family he was raised with very little responsibility and has had difficulty finding real direction in his life. However, his time on the island taught him to be self-reliant and he learned not to take life for granted. He's addicted to adrenaline and is constantly looking for adventure. He can be seen as egotistical due to his wealth and the way he behaves, but he believes in having fun while you still can.

Oliver was born into a wealthy family, he would travel the world and go on many adventures with his parents. As a child he idolised his hero, Robin Hood, taking an interest in archery because of this and practising often. He was mildly traumatised the first time he accidentally killed an animal, leading him to hesitate when his parents were attacked by lions at a safari park when he was 14.
His parents died in that tragic accident, after which he was raised by his uncle before eventually inheriting his family fortune and business at age 18.
As he grew older he became a thrill-seeking playboy, interested only in getting drunk and having fun. He had few responsibilities and no direction in his life as he could get whatever he wanted without much effort.

This all changed when he went out to sea and his boat capsized in the middle of the ocean. He survived by staying afloat on a bow, part of his Robin Hood memorabilia collection, eventually becoming stranded on a desert island.
Oliver developed his skills as a hunter and gained mastery of his bow while surviving on the island. His experiences there gave him a new appreciation for life, however, it also took away part of his humanity, having spent each and every day not knowing if he'd make it to the next.
Once he was rescued Oliver took what he had learned on the island and used it to help those in need, becoming the masked vigilante known as the green arrow. To keep his identity secret he continued to drink and party as he did before his days on the island, however sometimes he believes this is less about his secret identity and more about reminding himself that he's actually still alive.

Stranded; Oliver fears being stranded alone like he was on the island, stuck in a never-ending abyss for the rest of his life. Spending every day thinking of nothing but survival, that kind of thinking changes a person and he fears that if he was put in that situation again that he wouldn't be able to come back from it.
Cold; Oliver fears that he left more of himself behind on the island than he first thought. He pretends that continuing his playboy lifestyle is just a cover, but deep down he knows it's just to make sure he's still alive inside.
